Barrington Brissett

Barrington (lovingly known as Blaqson) began his work in childhood when his parents first introduced him to the world of coloring books. From there, his love of art, color, and rich cultural figures flourished. It is no wonder that his Jamaican heritage informs his color theory. From Milestone comic book characters to shoes and clothing designs, Barrington’s art knows no limits and no bounds. With the Vanguard’s support, Barrington has sold pieces to Spike Lee, painted murals in housing developments across Brooklyn and has showcased in multiple galleries around the city. By bringing Black art into public and community spaces, his work brings people together. A veteran teacher of the arts for children, it is clear that his values are found in everything that he does. Barrington’s art is as large as his sprawling imagination and serves as a love letter to his culture.
